Sicknote is 5-piece metal rocking band with a mission to get the folks rid of the boundaries of genres and get back to the music itself. The band was established 1999 by the string trio Antti (bass), Marko (guitar - left the band in 2005) and Pekka (guitar). Soon after a couple of weeks came Aki to play the drums and singer J was found from local bar.
Band started rehearsing and their musical identity was found soon after some weird experiences. In their first demo (2000) there was some clear leaps from genre to another, but they found their direction in combining those different elements already in their second demo (2001).
Band did club gigs in Finland and performed in Nummirock Metal Festival sharing the stage with bands like Evergrey, Sentenced and Amorphis in 2002.
After these couple of demos band decided to record a full-length album with an intention to find publisher for it. They recorded the album in the middle of nowhere in a farm far away from city lights in winter 2003. Album was recorded with portable studio gear and this distant farm gave surely something special to recording sessions. For example the shotgun "sounds" on the album were really shot in front yard of the farm in the middle of freezing cold winter night.
After the recording of the album was finished, long and devastating search for a record label has begun. Actually band got quite quickly the first offer from a small label which they accepted without hesitation. Sadly that small label just couldn't publish the album due to financial circumstances. After several months of waiting the band was back in the beginning. Next months passed on looking for a record deal with another label. At that time the guys kept themselves busy by writing new songs doing some club gigs...
Long wait was finally over and the record label Verikauha Records signed Sicknote in autumn 2004. Their first album Rudenia was released in March 2005 in Finland and the rest of the Scandinavia. To support the release of the album band did some shows around Finland and performed in Jalometalli Festival with bands like Dissection and Entombed.
In the year 2005, Marko left Sicknote for personal reasons. A temporary replacement guitarist, Leiviskä, joined the Sicknote ranks for upcoming gigs. In May 2006, his role was updated to a permanent member.
The long awaited debut album Rudenia has received great reviews by the metal magazines. Sicknote will continue to create thrilling metal in the right balance of origins and modern aggression. This is just the beginning.
